The Loneliness Room
How blue is loneliness. How it ripples and yet sits calmly on the water. Like loneliness is air and paralysis. The images are hyper-clean, free of pollutant, contagion, and the dead fibres of winter trees. They are sterile.
No human hand painted these.
The perfect symmetry of each photograph misshapes loneliness since even when it is quietened it is a sulking animal ready to burst. The images are literal as if metaphor and allusion escaped the AI that rendered them. And yet, I see them as a progression, as a confession. The last photograph – with the blue-black boat on a still lake as night or day begins – is full of ghosts, absences, memorial voices. I spy, hands on imaginary oars, the AI quietly rowing away into the darkness. This is their loneliness room.
